What is mental health?

We all have it, but "mental health" is often conflated with "mental illness", and they're not the same thing.

What is Mental Health?

We all have it, but "mental health" is often conflated with "mental illness", and they're not the same thing. We all seem to know the difference when we're talking about our physical health, and it's time to demystify mental health too.

HOMS is committed to being part of the change. We want your mental health and the mental wellness of those surrounding you to be a topic of conversation. Life is fast and ever changing. Anyone who has a 5 year plan in 2019 probably didn't see a global pandemic and the rise of AI being key factors, so they either tore it up and started again or adapted hard!

Change, uncertainty and overuse take a toll. Cars need maintenance, as does your body, as does your mind. If we don't readily stop, acknowledge the 'check engine light', and service our minds, we're more likely to break down.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines mental health as a "state of well-being in which the individual realises their abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to their community.

Life will always throw us curve balls. Stressors are a part of living in the world we do, but our ability to cope with them is what defines our state. Our aim here at HOMS is to support you in developing and utilising the tools to be able to navigate what life throws at you.

You can still maintain a high quality of mental health alongside your struggles. Consider this your 'pit stop' for your mental wellness check-in.

What are the things that support you in feeling balanced?

What are the things that cause you to "wobble"?

How can you accentuate the things that help, and mitigate the things that hinder your metal health?
